I am seriously hating this winter. It started snowing again today, just when I thought it might start to warm up for the weekend. I forgot how long it takes for the winter to ebb and the weather to be warm enough to go for a walk and snap pictures to my heart’s content. I am so ready for summer it’s not even funny. My poor camera has been stashed away in the closet, only coming out to take occasional baking pictures for my food blog. In order to get out of this winter-hating funk, here are some pictures from much warmer times to remind me of what wonderful summer months are soon to come.
Since the weather forecast on my phone said today was supposed to be in the 60s, I dragged Darren out of bed and we set off on our first hike of 2012. Apparently just because it’s warm outside doesn’t mean that there isn’t plenty of snow, ice, and mud to continuously dodge around for 3 miles. Even though Darren was dying by the end, we made it to the end of the loop and got to see some great views of Boulder. Take a look at some of my favorite photos from the day!
Don’t you just love the friends you can go forever without seeing, but once you get together, it’s like no time has passed at all? That’s how it is with Sara. For the last four years, we have only seen each other off and on about once a year. She went to college in California, and I stayed in Texas. But now, as luck would have it, we are both in Denver! It’s amazing to have such a good friend living just 15 minutes away in a completely new city. We are both nature freaks and love anything involving the outdoors, so of course we had to check out the Denver Botanical Gardens! I’m sure this is the first of many visits to this beautiful place, especially since Sara is amazing and got me a guest pass.
Well, I’ve done it. I packed up my car, drove 1,032 miles, and moved into my aunt and uncle’s house in Denver. I’ve been here almost two weeks, and I can honestly say this is the biggest and most exciting change of my life. I have tons of amazing family and friends here to support me, and it really makes it feel like home. I am so very lucky to have these people in my life right now.

In more picture post-related news, I went on a hike and this time did not get lost for hours, though it did take us quite a while to actually find the entrance for the hike. Oh, and there was a weird guy who said waterfalls could be found down the trail when clearly there was no water to be found. lol. The view was pretty fantastic for such a short hike. The terrain of Colorado is just gorgeous, and I am so excited to photograph something new every day!
Summertime = berry time, and here in East Texas, we like to sweat while picking our berries during the early morning hours. Blueberry picking is something I like to try to do every summer, and since this may be the last one I spend in TX, I got myself out of bed at 7:30 AM to do it. Sadly, the berry picking was not as good as it has been in the past. But my mom and I were not to be discouraged and ingeniously inserted ourselves into the middle of some of the bushes and found good berries there. I came out with random bark and leaf bits stuck all over me, and my mom had to wash her hands twice to get all the nature off of them. Now that’s dedication.
I have known Megan and Paul since the beginning of high school, and believe it or not, they have been together even longer than that. We’re talking middle school sweethearts, people! So adorable. I was beyond happy that Megan asked me to take some engagement pictures for them.

We headed into downtown Houston early in the morning to escape the horrendous heat, and Paul, who will be going to medical school there, acted as our tour guide. I am so clueless about downtown Houston it’s embarrassing. We went to two different parks and had to call it quits once the heat got too intense. Oh, Texas, why are your summers so picture unfriendly? But before we could get back in the comfort of the car’s AC, Paul was adamant about getting a “key to my heart” picture. lol. I’m glad he was because it’s really cute. I cannot wait for their wedding next summer!
